Harvard being Harvard, they decided to take on President Trump and his administration in court. They were not happy about the government trying to kick out a bunch of their foreign students, especially the ones from China. According to Harvard, this move violated the good ol’ US Constitution, specifically the First Amendment and due process clause. They claimed it was a total disaster for the university and the over 7,000 visa holders affected by this decision.
The university didn’t hold back, accusing the government of basically trying to wipe out a big chunk of their student population with just a signature. Harvard claimed that the government was just mad because they wouldn’t let them control everything about the school, from governance to what the teachers and students believe in. President Alan M. Garber promised the international students that Harvard would fight tooth and nail to stay open to the world. And guess what? A judge swooped in with a restraining order to stop the policy in its tracks. Talk about drama!
Harvard, the Big Shot University, decided to throw down with President Trump and his crew in court. They were all like, “Um, excuse me, but you can’t just kick out our international students like that!” Apparently, Harvard thought this move was a big no-no according to the good ol’ US Constitution. They were not playing around when they said this was a major blow to the university and all those visa holders caught in the crossfire.
The university didn’t mince words, accusing the government of basically trying to erase a huge chunk of their student population with just a flick of a pen. Harvard was like, “Oh no you didn’t!” They claimed the government was just salty because Harvard wouldn’t let them control every little thing about the school. President Alan M. Garber stepped up and told the international students, “Don’t worry, we got your back. Harvard is staying open to the world, no matter what.” And just like that, a judge came in and slammed the brakes on the whole policy. What a rollercoaster of emotions!
