So, like, this business big shot dude from the US-China Business Council, Sean Stein, popped up at this event hosted by the US–China Education Trust on Thursday and was all, “Hey, US might not have as much power as they think in these tariffs talks with China.” Apparently, folks in the US are all, “China’s economy is so weak that these tariffs are gonna totally crush them!” But China’s been ready for this since, like, 2018 or something. They’re not in a rush for a deal like the White House thinks they are.
Then, Trump’s like, “Hey, maybe we should lower those insane tariffs we slapped on China since I got back in charge.” But China’s like, “Nah, we’re not making any moves towards the US for trade chats. And all this talk about progress is just ‘fake news’.” Plus, US didn’t realize China doesn’t wanna look like they’re getting pushed around on the global stage.
Stein says this whole mess started ’cause US thought China would reach out first after those initial tariffs in February. But China sees it as part of a bigger plan to slow their growth. So, quick deal? Not happening.
